I recently read an article that explained why it's so important for us to keep our dogs' nails short. When the nails touch the floor they push up on the toe. This tells the brain that the dog is standing uphill and leads to postural adjustments to compensate. Long term, these adjustments lead to joint and back issues. This was very illuminating for me. Now, I dislike cutting my dog's nails as much as you do but, the article said that it should be done weekly to every 2 weeks. There are groomers in town where you can have this task done for you, or, you can do it yourself. This coming Saturday from 11:00-1:00 at The Healthy Pet, Cindy Ehlers, will be offering nail trims and tip for DIY trimming for a $5 donation. Definitely worth it!
